Children, animals, and a vacation home all to herself

February 16, 2014

"I am sitting in the most beautiful, serene vacation home in Samiapata, Bolivia. There are two adorable boys, ages six and four, playing and coloring in my living room (hence all the drawings on the previous pages). I am sipping some tea out of little tiny mugs, just the way I like it. There is a stunning view directly in front of my eyes through the dining room window -- a huge yard with tall trees, flourishing flowers, and blue skies. How did I get to be so fortunate? Let's recap to the past few days to see how I got here..."

"After my hike through spider webs and wet mud in the forest, I assumed I'd be exhausted. But I forced myself to go out in the town just to see what it had to offer. Guess who I ran into at the cafe? Chloe and her brother -- the girl I had randomly shared a taxi with the day before, who brought fresh fruit to share with everyone along the ride. We decided to all go to the zoo the next day, which is where I met the kiddos currently sitting my living room."

"Things led to things and Chloe offered her family's vacation home to me while she returned to Santa Cruz. Talk about hospitality. A girl I just met lent me the keys to her vacation house? To stay as long as I wanted? It seemed too good to be true. And it is. Here I am enjoying this wonderful house all to myself -- a huge queen bed to sleep in, a kitchen to cook in, adorable children to play with, a hammock to swing in, and a beautiful view to look at. I even went for a three hour horseback ride, which, surprisingly, got boring after a while, but who can complain when being transported through the beautiful mountains and valleys of Samiapata by horse?"
