Collectively, I hear people asking what are our practices?

What are the practices that slow us down and get us to feel? That keep us grounded, keep us connected, keep us alive moving toward the world we want to inhabit together? Practices that strengthen our voices, soften our hearts, uplift our spirits? Practices that invite us to be devotional, hopeful, committed, accountable, subversive, imaginative, and loving? Letter writing is one of those practices for me and I wanted a way to share it with others.

Writing letters has been one of my favorite art forms ever since I was young. In middle school, I designed my own stationery on Microsoft Word and wrote dozens of letters to friends from sleepaway camp. In high school and college, I had several pen pals to maintain long distance friendships. As a teacher, I hand-wrote birthday cards to every student filled with affirming words and during the lockdown days of the pandemic, I wrote letters to LGBTQIA+ folks who were incarcerated through blackandpink.org. I continue to write letters because this is an art form that feels deeply personal, connective, & meaningful to me.

I created these greeting card collage kits all from my personal paper scrap collection. Use the supplies in here to collage & create your own hand-made greeting cards. For most of the paper, a regular glue stick or modge podge will do. Fill your cards with your heart’s messages and send them to loved ones! There’s no right or wrong way to do it.

A note on the price: In Judaism, the number 18 holds specific significance. The Hebrew word “חי” (pronounced chai) means life, to be alive, to be living. Numerically, this word is made up of 2 letters that together make 18. Many Jews offer gifts or mutual aid contributions in multiples of 18 to breathe life into whatever it is they are supporting. May these collage kits and the practice of letter writing breathe life into our loving relationships <3

A note on the packaging: As I finished writing this, I noticed a misalignment: I don’t want these greeting card collage kits in plastic bags. Disrupting perfectionist tendencies, I’m putting these out into the world for now and committing to looking for more sustainable packaging. If you have any recommendations for clear/transparent packaging that is less harmful to our planet, please share with me through my contact form!
