art workshop for youth: art as self exploration, expression, & healing
I transitioned away from teaching in classrooms because I knew schools as institutions weren’t the right place for me.
I’ve been dreaming of ways to continue working with young people in ways that feel freeing, humanizing, joyful, magical, & connective.
In ways that young people could show up as their fullest selves without the pressures of being graded or judged.
In ways where young people could make mistakes and we could work toward repairing relationships without the harshness of threat & punishment.
In ways that gave young people choice to join a learning environment because they wanted to and not because a schedule forced them to.
In ways where young people could explore movement & embodiment to connect with their fullest selves instead of only focusing on their cognitive development or skills.
In ways that young people could follow their own curiosities and express themselves artistically.
In ways that allowed young people to slow down and process at their own pace instead of on an arbitrary schedule.
In ways that were actually sustainable & nourishing so we could tend to our collective well being.
In ways that valued the inherent creativity in all human beings and nourished our inner artists.
If you're a young person and this sounds like something you'd be interested in, join us. I’ll be facilitating a 4-week workshop series for teens to be able to make art together. It’ll involve some reflection on who we are, how we want to show up in the world, the stories we hold, and the healing that is possible when we prioritize our creative selves in community with others.
If the price is a barrier, please reach out and I can help you with the quick & easy scholarship application 💓
This is something I’ve been dreaming up for weeks and it's finally happening next month. I'd be so honored if you joined or shared with someone who might. So grateful to the Richmond Art Center for offering the space for programming like this to happen. Communities that invest in youth & the arts are the only way forward ✨
