Hail Storm Survival Kit: Headlamp, Harmonica, Ouija Board, Beer

January 29, 2014

"After our stunningly beautiful time on the island, we were off onto an overnight bus to Uyuni for our desert, salt flat tour."

"Our group consisted of Oliva and I, the girls from the States; Yonatan, from Israel; Patric, from Switzerland; Walter and Ana, from Brazil; and of course, our lovely guide, Omar, from Bolivia. We all got along extraordinarily well, and it was really fun to learn about our different cultures. While the sites were obviously stunning, my favorite part of the tour was just hanging out with these guys, picking each other's brains and laughing constantly."

"The first night we suffered through a terrible rain storm. There was so much hail that all the ceilings leaked, some even collapsed entirely. Our rooms, our beds, our backpacks, our cafeteria, everything, was completely flooded. We lost power for a while, so we attempted to navigate around this foreign hostel with headlamps. This could have easily ruined the trip for us, but I was determined to make everyone happy and see the humor in this. I whipped out my harmonica, created a ouija board, bought the first round of beer, and convinced everyone to enjoy themselves. When would be the next time they'd be stranded with strangers from around the world, in the middle of nowhere Bolivia, in a hail storm?"

Our entire Jeep tour wouldn't have been possible without this guy right here, Omar.
